The ability to maintain connections with friends and family is essential for the wellbeing of older people in residential aged care.

Visitor restrictions have been one of the issues most frequently raised with OPAN advocates in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Knowing your visitation rights can help you speak up.

According to the revised Industry Code for Visiting in Aged Care Homes, restrictions should only occur

  • when a COVID-19 outbreak occurs in your home
  • when there are high levels of COVID-19 in your local community.

If restrictions are in place, an Essential Visitor is still allowed to visit you even during lockdowns.

You can also chat to us on 1800 700 600 if you have issues receiving visitors in your aged care home.
